Starting at $599, the iPhone 16e is the latest and the most affordable addition to the iPhone 16 family. Despite the price, it feels slightly overpriced and lacks certain features.
One of those omitted features is MagSafe, which enables faster wireless charging and access to various accessories like magnetic phone stands, wallets, and more.
But there was no explanation for why Apple skipped this feature. However, that changed when an unnamed Apple representative shared the reason with John Gruber of Daring Fireball.
The representative stated that the iPhone 16e doesn’t support MagSafe charging because "most people in the 16e's target audience exclusively charge their phones using a charging cable."
We're unsure what data Apple used to reach this conclusion, but it seems more like a cost-cutting measure, even though the iPhone 16e isn't very cheap.
The iPhone 16e also replaces the iPhone SE lineup, which lacked MagSafe support, so that could be another reason for omitting it.
That said, it still feels like a cost-cutting move to boost profits, especially since MagSafe is a useful quality-of-life upgrade.
