How to turn on Theater mode on Apple Watch
- On your Apple Watch, swipe up to access Control Center.
- Tap on the Theater mode icon (two masks).
- Select the Theater mode option on the next pop-up if prompted.
Once you enable Theater mode on your Apple Watch, the two mask icons will turn orange; silent mode will activate, turning the bell icon red.
You’ll also see the mask icon at the top of your watch face, indicating that you enabled it.
After enabling the Theater mode on your Apple Watch, the display will turn off completely. Even if you have “Raise to Wake” enabled, your Apple Watch won’t light up.
To light up your display in Theater mode, you’ll need to do one of the following:

- Tap on the display.
- Press the Digital Crown or side button.
- Turn up the Digital Crown.
Once you’ve checked the notifications and messages, you can dim your Apple Watch’s display by turning the Digital Crown down.
Turning off Theater mode is pretty straightforward once you’re done watching your favorite movie or show.
How to turn off Theater mode on Apple Watch
- On your Apple Watch, swipe up to access Control Center.
- Tap on the Theater mode icon (two masks).
Your Apple Watch will be back to normal after disabling the Theater mode.
When to use the Theater mode on Apple Watch?
As the name suggests, you should use the Theater mode in theaters and Broadway shows so you don’t disturb others with the light and sound from your Apple Watch.
However, theater mode is not only meant for theaters. It can be handy in situations when you want to use silent mode on your Apple Watch and also want the screen to go dark.
Furthermore, if you frequently lift your Apple Watch while doing painstaking work, the Theater mode can help you dim the screen and save battery.
