1. Watch Odyssey Fitness Game – Editor’s Choice
Games and fitness – A match made in heaven. With Watch Odyssey, you can cherish this interesting combination for real. And the best part – there is a spacecraft! This stellar game uses the move, exercise, stand stats, and goals of the Apple Watch and transforms them into fuel to run your spaceship.
With every step you take and every milestone you achieve, your spacecraft enters another exciting zone into the cosmos. The game brings you to the center of a beautiful galaxy with 100 one-of-a-kind planets and over 10,000 unique fellow inhabitants. Trust me; with so much going around you, you won’t lack motivation. You will love to go deeper in this space exploration while fulfilling all your health goals.
You can immerse yourself in this magical space expedition by making a small investment of $4.99. That’s pretty little for something that will unlock new, entertaining ways to improve your health. Strap on your Apple Watch and turn every step into an intentional game plan.
Price: $4.99
2. Ping Pong – Retro arcade game
Ping Pong is a great option for those who are casual gamers at best and don’t like to spend too much time gaming. It brings a classic game to a modern platform.
Regardless of the new platform, the game still plays the same way. It’s quick, efficient, and fun enough to be almost addictive. You can play through multiple modes, with over 60 levels to check out. You can also play the game with another friend. Connect the iPhone to the watch, and both of you can play over local multiplayer connections!
You’ll have to pay for accessing each level, though. So, you have to deal with microtransactions in this game.
Price: Free (In-app purchases start at $0.99)
3. 20 Watch Games – Value for money
Who doesn’t love a bargain? With 20 Watch Games, you get the best Apple Watch games for the price of one! I’m pretty sure we all love them, especially if the value for money ratio is sky-high.
However, this doesn’t mean that you’ll have plenty of leeway in terms of the games. Most of them are quite basic in nature but are great for killing time. For example, classics such as Jewel Blitz and Mine Sweeper are present in the pack. There are other uncommon games such as ATM and Block Ninja. Either way, they’re great fun to play.
The games on this pack are simple, though. If you’re looking for something modern and complex, you won’t find it here.
Price: $0.99
4. Lifeline… – Best adventure game
Who would’ve thought in the earlier days that you could play an entire adventure game on your watch? With Lifeline… you get a beautiful story that you can participate in during your commute.
The game features multiple branching storylines that cater to your in-game decisions. This adds a huge amount of replayability to the game. Moreover, the story is penned by the iconic Dave Justus, who wrote the famous “The Wolf Among Us” game, published by Telltale.
Text-based adventure games were the norm at the time. Now, they may be a novelty. However, Lifeline… has sprung this genre back to life. The narrative is gripping, and the gameplay will remind you often of the older days of gaming.
The only gripe with the game is that it requires you to proceed with patience. The initial pacing is quite slow.
Price: $2.99
5. Jupiter Attack – Best arcade game
Arcade games provide us with a tinge of nostalgia. While gaming arcades are hardly available nowadays, you can still enjoy some older arcade games on newer devices. With Jupiter Attack, you get one of the best Apple Watch games with a retro flavor.
Space invaders are heading towards Earth with a single idea – destruction. It’s your job to save the planet from hordes of spacecraft adamant about causing our doom. When you play the game, whether you skip past them or destroy the spaceships, the idea is to get the highest score possible. You can also find power-ups and the levels are almost infinite in number.
It’s a simple enough game and will keep you occupied for a substantial time. Unfortunately, as you progress through the higher scores, the game’s difficulty spikes frequently.
Price: $2.99
6. Pocket Bandit – Fun casual game
Pocket Bandit is one of the most underrated yet best Apple Watch games you can find today. It uses the Apple Watch’s most important feature as the game’s core.
The gameplay is puzzle-based and requires you to crack open safes. How will you do that? By using the Apple Watch’s Digital Crown feature, of course. To open the safe, you’ll have to orient the crown until you can crack it open the safe. Use sounds and the Watch’s vibration to find the right combination.
However, the game has recently been plagued with a few bugs and freezing issues. Hopefully, the developers will iron out these issues in time.
Price: $0.99
7. Square Bird Watch – Best for commute
Remember the sensational hit called Flappy Birds? Square Bird Watch is a more aesthetic and stylized version of this game. So what if you can’t play Flappy Birds anymore? Square Bird Watch has you covered. Since the game uses stylized blocky aesthetics, it subtly increases the difficulty.
The idea remains the same, however. You’ll have to tap on the screen at the correct time to keep your bird in flight. You’re not allowed to hit any of the objects in the environment. One wrongly-timed tap, and the game is over.
There are new birds to use as well. Moreover, these birds have combos to help you progress faster!
The developers haven’t added too many rewards, though. This can make progressing through the game a chore.
Price: Free (In-app purchases start at $0.99)
8. Snake.io – Best strategy game
Snake.io will bring you memories of the first Snake games that we played on mobile phones. It follows the same process of eating worms until your worm grows the biggest.
The bigger the worm grows, the higher the score. Moreover, this has a battle royale spin to it as you can play the game with other friends who are also aiming for high scores. Furthermore, other gameplay additions make this a much more fluid game than the previous iterations, such as the mass-eject booster.
Unfortunately, the game doesn’t have a leaderboard section, so you can’t compete online properly with your friends.
Price: Free (in-app purchases start at $0.99)
9. Trivia Crack – Best trivia game
This game falls under two categories – the best trivia game you can play and one of the best Apple Watch games. Trivia crack is excellent if you want to learn something new while you and your friends battle it out for trivia supremacy.
There’s a wheel called Willy, which you can spin to choose questions from six different categories. The first to get the highest score in all six categories wins. While this may seem like a long game, it won’t tug at your Apple Watch’s battery!
My only gripe with the game is that there are far too many ads in the free version.
Price: Free (In-app purchases start at $0.99)
10. Snappy Word – Best word game
If you like working on crossword puzzles and general vocabulary, Snappy Word would be a blessing. This game has decent game mechanics to keep the game fresh and fun.
The game is simple enough. You’re given a bunch of randomized letters that you need to link in a particular order to find the hidden words. These words can be of two letters or even five!
The game suffers from plenty of ads, though.
Price: Free (In-app purchases start from $0.99)
11. Chess – Best board game
This Chess game is simply one of the best games for the Apple Watch that you can find online. It has a remarkably simple yet elegant user interface yet a complex learning system.
Both of these features complement each other quite well. Moreover, you can learn everything about chess in this game. Whether you’re a beginner or an expert; there’s always something to learn. You could also analyze your previous matches and rectify the mistakes you made. The interactive learning in this game makes it superior to its competitors.
The chess lessons per day are severely limited, however. To access more lessons, you’ll have to pay.
Price: Free (In-app purchases start at $4.99)
